Director Gil Kenan has offered a promising update on the development of the Netflix Ghostbusters series.

The director behind Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, Gil Kenan, has offered a promising update on the development of the Ghostbusters animated series from Netflix. Speaking on A Trip to the Movies with Alex Zane, Kenan revealed what is happening with the Netflix animated show saying that he has now seen for himself what the series will look like when it lands on the streamer.

“I just watched an entire art presentation for the show. I’ve seen the sets and the environments, and I just saw my first glimpse at a world of supernatural characters as realized by our brilliant creative team. All I can say is the work is being done as we speak. It’s in what we call full development. Scripts are being written, art is being created, and it’s a great time to be a Ghostbuster.”

Not much has yet been revealed about the animated series, but we do know that it will “navigate an unexplored era and decade of Ghostbusters canon” and be led by an “all-new team” as well as providing “a whole new take.” Both Gil Kenan and Ghostbusters: Afterlife director Jason Reitman are on board as executive producers.

The animated project is set to be directed by Chris Prynoski and Jennifer Kluska, and written by Brenda Hsueh, and will be the third time that the Ghostbusters have appeared in cartoon form following the hugely popular The Real Ghostbusters and its follow-up, Extreme Ghostbusters.

Kluska has previously said that it now feels “very right and fitting” to bring the titular team back for more animated adventures.

“It feels sort of very right and fitting to come back to ‘Ghostbusters’ in an animated form. It feels like so many ‘Ghostbusters’ fans come from that space as well. And that gives you this bigger, weirder stage to play upon. And I think we want to obviously do something very new and different, as we always do but we know that there are so many ‘Ghostbusters’ fans who just are waiting to see this franchise animated again.”
