"The juice is loose."
More than three decades after the first movie, we finally have a brief teaser trailer for Tim Burton's long-awaited Beetlejuice sequel, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Warner Bros. dropped the trailer that clocks in just over one minute today. Appropriately, the entire thing is soundtracked by a choral version of "Day-O (The Banana Boat Song)," a song all too familiar to fans of the original film.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice - Official Teaser Trailer
We get a quick look at Jenna Ortega's new character Astrid Deetz, the daughter of Winona Ryder's Lydia Deetz, as she rides her bicycle past Miss Shannon's School for Girls. We then get a shot of Astrid, Lydia, and Catherine O'Hara's Delia Deetz at a funeral.
What comes next is where we get the best idea of where Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will pick up: we see Astrid uncover the model of Winter River in the attic, and later see Lydia in the attic alone. It's in front of Lydia that Michael Keaton's Beetlejuice rises from the model and warns, "the juice is loose."
Warner Bros. has also finally unveiled an official synopsis for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, which you can read below:
Beetlejuice is back! After an unexpected family tragedy, three generations of the Deetz family return home to Winter River. Still haunted by Beetlejuice, Lydia's life is turned upside down when her rebellious teenage daughter, Astrid, discovers the mysterious model of the town in the attic and the portal to the Afterlife is accidentally opened. With trouble brewing in both realms, it's only a matter of time until someone says Beetlejuice's name three times and the mischievous demon returns to unleash his very own brand of mayhem.
It's no doubt the most substantial glimpse we've gotten for the long-awaited sequel following a couple of first-look images yesterday. We first heard about a follow-up to Beetlejuice all the way back in 2011, but it's gone through multiple iterations and cycles of development hell since then.
In addition to the returns of Keaton, Ryder, and O'Hara, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice will feature newcomers to the franchise like the aforementioned Wednesday star Ortega, along with Justin Theroux, who's playing a mysterious character simply named Rory. Willem Dafoe and Monica Bellucci are also in the cast.
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice hits theaters on September 6, 2024.
